Tanzania Wildlife Safari Itinerary—10 days
Depart US and arrive Tanzania
Day 1: Arrive in Arusha, Tanzania
Upon arrival in Arusha, Tanzania at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by Allan himself or naturalist guide who will help you gather your belongings and assist at customs and immigration. Then, you will be transferred to a beautiful lodge for your first overnight in Africa. (Overnight in Arusha at Ilboru Safari Lodge)
Day 2: Arusha National Park
Today, you will head to Arusha National Park for a game drive. This is the smallest park but has incredibly diverse scenery and wildlife. Game drive through lush forest where rare black and white colobus monkeys can be spotted on the trees. Also keep an eye out for buffalo, giraffes, hippos, waterbucks and so many species of birds. We will head back to the lodge later this afternoon for relaxing time. (Overnight in Arusha) (Note: You can opt instead for a day trip to Kilimanjaro. You will drive to 12,500 ft. and if weather is in our favor see this beautiful mountain with some time for a short hike. There is an additional cost of $200 for this option.)
Days 3: Tarangire National Park
Departing Arusha we will drive across the Maasai village on our way to Tarangire National Park, which is the fourth largest and one of the greatest concentrations of wildlife. From our tent camp you will have excellent and easy access to the wildlife. This park is fa-mous for its majestic Baobab Trees and Acacia Tortilla Trees. On the game drive, you will be able to spot big groups of Elephants, Impalas, Warthog, Lion, Leop-ard, Gerenuk, Zebra, Giraffe, Waterbuck and over 300 species of birds. Also you might be lucky enough to spot the African pythons snake hanging on the acacia trees. (Overnight in Tarangire, tented camp)
Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park
As you depart Tarangire you will view wildlife viewing as we drive. Manyara is known for its tree-climbing lion. Then stop at Lake Manyara where the water attracts thousands of flamingos, pelican, and over 400 species of migratory birds including Eagles, King Fishers can be spotted here. The forest areas are home to lion, impala, leopard, giraffe, ele-phant and much more. Lunch will be at picnic site and dinner at the lodge. (Overnight at Manyara tented camp)
Days 5: Serengeti National Park.
After an early departure we will enter the great Serengeti via Olduvai Gorge. You will make a brief stop at a fascinating archeological muse-um where the remains of the earliest human being were discovered in this area 3 million years ago. We will explore the great Serengeti for the next three days.
Serengeti National Park is one of the largest and most famous parks in the world because of the annual migration of wildebeest. It covers nearly 6,000 square miles of grassland plains, savannah, kopjes, hills, woodlands, and riverine forest.
Day 6: Serengeti National Park.
This is a full day of game viewing on the Serengeti plain (the endless plain). You will spot the BIG FIVE animals: Lions, Rhinos, Elephants, Leopards, and the African Buffalo. Also over 300 species of birds including Vultures can be seen in this park. The Serengeti
National Park is also the home of the Cheetah, Hyena, Wildebeest, Zebra and so many others animals. A full day of game viewing with a box lunch until you return for dinner. (Overnight tented camp)
Day 7: Serengeti National Park.
This is a third day of exploring the Serengeti you will visit some of the more remote areas on your drive toward Ndutu Lake. You will see many animals including the migration of wildebeest, Zebras, Leopard, Gazelles, Impalas, Lions, Hyena, African Jackals, African Buffalo, and more. This is your final night in the Serengeti. (Overnight tented camp)
Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater
Today we head to Ngorongoro Crater, which is one of the greatest destinations in the world; with lake, forest, savannah, and astounding population of about 30,000 animals within 102 square miles. Ngorongoro Crater is often referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Today you will cross the short grass plains to Ngorongoro Crater, with game viewing as we are heading to the lodge. Lunch will be at picnic site. If time allows we can cross the Crater floor on the way. We will visit the fascinating Maasai tribe and view their dancing and singing. You will meet the chief and his family. (The chief may have 2 or more wives all living together) (Overnight Tented Camp)
Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater
This morning you will descend 2,000 feet to the base of the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day of a game viewing. In this unique environment, you will search for a wide variety of wildlife such as Cheetahs, hippo, hyena, gazelle, including the big "Big Five" elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and African buffalo. You will also spot many species of birds including Kori Bustards, Marabou stork, an Ostrich, crowned cranes and much more. Optional: visit the Crater again in the evening hours. Re-turn to the lodge in time for hot showers, dinner and watch sun set at the campsite. (Overnight tented camp)
Day 10: Back to Arusha
Depart after breakfast and drive back to Arusha on time for a bit of shopping and a farewell lunch. Rest and relax before an early dinner and evening transfer to the international airport for your departing flight. (Day rooms at a wonderful lodge)
